Thanks for the suggestion :-) It looks like an interesting site and concept. I searched to see if there were any suggestions for ThinkCube yet -- none I could find.

Just found this interesting blogpost online and though I'd share. Very thought provoking. It also looks like an interesting blog and I'm hoping to read through when I get a moment. http://litemind.com/problem-definition/

Hi Jimmy Yes, time has moved on - certainly since I was a regular on the creativity sites around the internet. Sounds like the idea has found some impetus though. The pitch idea sounds interesting - would like to know more about that.

Hi Jimmy My initial thought is that children would get the bears muddled and it would be easier to remember if the group consisted of different, unusual animals. Eg: kangaroo, giraffe, elephant, dolphin etc. Each would have a different role. For...

Hi John
yes I had a long look and was impressed with the wide range of content, I remember thinking that some of these or similar have been aired - meant to ask if you had indeed taken any of them forward.
One of the lads in thenerve.tv has an idea similar to your rejected ideas - 'yesterdays world' instead of tomorrows world, looking at inventions that never quite made it.
I think you should get these protected and follow up on some - there is a lot of merit in there.
With regard to you brainstorming ideas - they would also go down well in thenerve - there are quite a few creatives who are now collaborating on taking ideas forward across multiple platforms - which may produce some new products.
A great blog

Hi John, I thought you might be interested in this.

I just happened on these cards last week here at a book shop in the Philippines and I have played once and all I can say is fantastic tool! The other interesting thing is that these cards work in a similar fashion to the cards in the ThinkCube.

As you are into story telling you should get a pack. I can grab and send you a pack if you wish.

Current Project
Creating strategies for writing fiction and jokes. Finding ways to use these strategies on another creativity challenges.
About Me:
I have a (sometimes unhealthy) obsession with ideas and the simplicity of great ideas. It started in my teens when I became interested in "systems"; I would read books on memory systems (Buzan and Harry Lorayne), exam systems ("The Exam Secret") and creativity techniques (Edward de Bono and Roger von Oech).

My "holy grail" challenge is to devise a strategy that can write fiction -- be it something like Herge's Tintin, short stories, or screenplays (like Tarantino's Pulp Fiction). I am hoping that the "finalised" (!) product will improve my creativity in all areas and on any challenge.

Favorite Idea
I think it's an urban myth, but a man worked for a match manufacturer and told them he could save them two million pounds a year but it would cost them a million to know the secret. They agreed. He said "Only have the striking surface on one side of the matchbox". (Amazingly simple, but how many of us would have though of it, and what similar simple ideas are we missing?)

I also like ideas that make me think "What thinking processes did the person go through to reach that idea?". An example would be the man who had all the names of the 9/11 victims tattooed on his body -- when you're emptying the dustbin or doing the dishes, how do your thoughts switch to thoughts of different ways -- creative ways -- of paying tribute to 9/11 victims?
Favorite Website
So many to choose from! My general favourites are the BBC news site, YouTube and Wikipedia. My creativity favourites are BrainReactions and the Global Ideas Bank.
Favorite Innovator
I admire the prolific music composers - Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney etc.
Favorite Book
Can't name a favourite, but the work of Edward de Bono started my interest in ideas. I like to read about psychology, with Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy being my favourite areas.

An Idea For YouTube - "Key Ten Seconds"

Problem: You're having a general meander around YouTube looking for things to watch. Some videos are longer than others but a few minutes is a long time to watch a dud and you can't rely on ratings - everything being subjective.

Idea: When people upload videos to YouTube they could select a "key ten seconds" of their video. Here's how it works: When you're searching for videos you would have the option to watch just that key ten seconds (in addition to having the option to watch the video in it… Continue

Can you think of creative ways to introduce handicapping systems to sports?

I added this challenge to BrainReactions and my (other) blog today:

Can you think of ways to introduce handicapping systems to sports?

For example - tennis. I'm playing against a much better player. How can I change the situation so that the better player is handicapped in some way so as to make the players equal thus resulting in a more competitive and enjoyable game?

The te

Idea Contest For Cash Prizes. Ideas On The Development Of ThinkCube Network

Hey folks

Thought you may like to know about a brainstorming contest on BrainReactions for cash prizes:

Brainstorming Competition

Also, would like to know your thoughts on this idea: we start a number of collaborative brainstorming projects on here about specific subjects/problems and spread these ideas on the net under the name of ThinkCube (or maybe something like "ThinkCube Network"). I'm thinking initially of submitting these id… Continue

Creativity: kick-starts at the 'blank page' stage

Katie Konrath, on the getFreshMinds blog asked this question:

"What do you do when you're told to do something creative, and the instructions are left at that! What if the only space you have to show your creativity is half a sheet of paper?

What would you do?"

I've been using a simple system to kick-start my creativity:

I think of two random letters and construct two two-syllable words that start with those letters.

So, C & P could give: colour party.

Then I formulate questions… Continue
